Some Shoes for Nessa

I hand painted these snakeskin inspired shoes as a gift for my girlfriend. Her birthday was yesterday and I had just finished these shoes the night before. She is really into gold and metallics these days so I though it would be a good idea to keep that same color palette. This project was a totally new experience for me. I got a chance to use a new paint medium, work with a new color palette, and try my first attempt of creating a snakeskin pattern. The paints I used were Jacquard Lumiere Acrylics. I really enjoyed these light bodied acrylics because they were smooth and opaque. I also enjoyed their brilliance and there was no need for me to gesso the shoes because these acrylics can go on anything (wood, canvas, leather, etc). Once dried these acrylics become pretty permanent and flexible. So there shouldn't be any cracking or peeling with these. I did, however, add a liquitex varnish to them just in case. My girlfriend loves her new shoes and can't wait for more future pairs.

Drink and Draw Sessions

Drink and Draw sessions began as a way for me to teach the Phantom some new tricks with a new art medium. Mr. Pat Spurlock wanted me to teach him how to create washes with water soluble color pencils. So we set a night where we can work on art. The tremendous three got together at Pat's house to hang out and work on art. I got Pat to experiment with different tips and tricks with the medium. The medium of choice was my set of Derwent's Inktense pencils. By far one of the best investments in an art medium I made. As the night progressed, I worked on a illustration of Pat's dog,  Zombie. The Erwinator worked on his new comic, Lil Erwin, and Pat took off on whatever his imagination gave him. We all had achieved so much out of this group meeting and we where so stoked to just work together. What could get any better than this right?!...Kraken spiced rum on the rocks can! We drank and drew and drank and drew and drank and ...well you get the hint. Our Drink and Draw sessions is still it's premature stage since we only had two sessions so far,  but it looks like it's becoming a tradition much like our First Fridays. We are looking forward on making  this a weekly thing to keep us in a progressive motivating art mindset. We are unstoppable! Long live the Tremendous Three!

First Friday 8/3/12

This past First Friday was another success for the Tremendous Three. We suffered through the extreme Bakersfield heat from 3:30 to 9:00pm but it was worth it. I got to see many friends and family that came out to show their support and experience the event. The Erwinator, Erwin Ledford, sold the last copies of his Plainest Plane Plainest Pictorial Periodical Vol.1 and is currently working on his new creation, the Lil Erwin comic. The Phantom Stranger, Pat Spurlock, sold his double skull skeleton painting and got a contact that may possibly be a future commission for a band's album cover. We are on fire like the heat and cannot be stopped.

Morro Bay

It has been a while since I updated my blog. The reason why is because I had some down time and have not been as busy. My girlfriend and I had been invited to our Friends Nick & Barbara's wedding on the weekend of July 21. Yes this the same bride that I did the shoes for. Because we were lucky enough to be invited, my girlfriend and I took this as an advantage to make a weekend trip out of it. Since the wedding was in Avila Beach during the weekend on our own time we went to visit Morro Bay. This is some of the interesting and funny things we seen in Morro.
